Running the race is about getting as many things done as possible in the shortest time available. In any given day a person will be productive at work, rush to the store, take care of the kids, and then finally slam to bed very late. He or she doesn’t have the luxury to enjoy the work that he or she is engaged in. One of the ways to keep ourselves motivated is to enjoy our tasks. We have to desire to be accomplished and be the main provider for our families. We must like the adrenaline rush that goes along with working hard without a break. However, we must also enjoy a large proportion of our tasks or we will get “burnt out”. Being “burnt out” is no fun. When this happens people feel as though they don’t have anymore motivation and feel as though they are trapped like slaves in some useless struggle for more meaning. The fact that they are now forced with little enjoyment makes them resent the world around them. This negativity brings with it more problems. One of the ways in which a person can find more enjoyment in their work is to adjust the work load so that they don’t have to work so long on routine tasks. This might mean delegating the work to someone else or getting rid of these tasks if they are not essential. One can also consider combining a few tasks to make them more interesting. It is often beneficial to simply do less during the day make a few hours for pleasure. This often requires an overhaul of one’s schedule, prioritizing of one’s tasks, as well as delegation of routine tasks. It may be hard to squeeze out a few hours a day but it is necessary to keep productivity and satisfaction up. Gaining a new perspective can also be helpful. Why are you doing all this work anyways? You should consider the amount of work you are doing, the reason why you are doing all this work, and what you hope to gain. If you can’t come up with a good reason that motivates you then you should consider major adjustments.
